Aidan O’Brien calls St Mark’s Basilica a special talent after Ryan Moore rides the colt to a triumph at Sandown
- St Mark’s Basilica sprinted clear for a decisive three-and-a-half length victory
- The result marked a fourth Group One win for the three-year-old in fine form
- He may face a re-match with Mishriff in the Juddmonte International Stakes
Adian O’Brien described St Mark’s Basilica as a special talent after the Ryan Moore-ridden colt sprinted clear for a decisive three-and-a-half length victory in the Coral-Eclipse Stakes at Sandown.
It was a fourth Group One win for the three-year-old, who won the Dewhurst Stakes last year and the French 2,000 Guineas and French Derby this season.
Moore produced St Mark’s Basilica to cut down Mishriff, the 2020 French Derby winner, over a furlong out, as well as four-time Group-One winner Addeybb, who cut out the early running and stayed in to be second.

O’Brien, who was winning the Eclipse for the sixth time, said: ‘He quickened up and put the race to bed very quickly.
‘If they have that change of pace it is what marks horses between good and better than good.’
St Mark’s Basilica could face a re-match with Mishriff in the Juddmonte International Stakes at York next month.
