Colreevy edges out Elimay in the battle of the Willie Mullins’ trained mares to snatch victory in the Mares Chase in penultimate race at Cheltenham
It was a battle of the Willie Mullins’ trained mares as Colreevy got the better of race favourite Elimay to win the Mares’ Chase in the penultimate race at Cheltenham this year.
The 4.15 at Cheltenham quickly developed into a two-horse race between the Irish duo, with Elimay and Colreevy streaking ahead of the chasing pack.
But the 5-2 second-favourite had the better position heading down the home stretch, and crossed the finish line half a length in front of Elimay.
Mullins’ victory keeps alive his hopes of winning the best trainer, taking it to the final race of the week.
