  • The sum is set to increase to somewhere between £8m and £9m a year

ITV will continue to show racing until at least 2023 as a fraught period of negotiation finally appears to have been concluded.

A new three-year deal between ITV and Racecourse Media Group, Ascot and Arena Racing Company — revealed by Sportsmail last month — is likely to be signed on Tuesday, with the sum increasing to between £8m and £9m a year.

Marquee racedays will remain on ITV’s main channel, helping to protect racing’s profile and providing vital resources with finances in turmoil due to Covid-19

ITV have secured a new three-year deal to continue to show racing until at least 2023

Broadcasting figures have been encouraging since a four-year deal began in January 2017, with ITV earning a Bafta for its coverage of the 2017 Grand National.

The Yarmouth meeting was abandoned amid safety fears following a fatal fall to Lord Chapelfield which saw jockey Gabriele Malune catapulted into the ground and knocked unconscious.

Malune was taken to hospital, and later discharged. A decision was made to abandon the meeting after the ground was examined.
