Jockey Adam Wedge will miss the ride on Silver Streak in the Champion Hurdle on Tuesday after breaking a bone in his back at Newbury.
Wedge’s boss, trainer Evan Williams, said: ‘Unfortunately Adam fractured his T12 vertebra in a fall last Friday.
‘He rode again on Saturday but felt very sore and, after being checked over, it was found he had cracked the bone.’
Adam Wedge will not be riding Silver Streak in the Champion Hurdle on Tuesday
Silver Streak won the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton on Boxing Day, beating last year’s Champion Hurdle winner Epatante by six lengths.
Silver Streak was one of 14 entries declared for the Champion Hurdle.
They included Abacadabras and Petit Mouchoir, which will run in the name of trainer Denise Foster after she took over the licence at Gordon Elliott’s stable in Ireland following his six-month suspension.
Asked if there was a chance horses from the Elliott stable might not be allowed at the Festival, BHA chief executive Julie Harrington said yesterday: ‘We are having really good discussions with the IHRB and I am not envisaging us getting to that point.’
